Thunderbirds fans, get ready for a nostalgic return to Tracy Island! All 32 episodes of the classic Supermarionation series are about to make a high-definition landing on Blu-ray.
This release is particularly significant because it marks the return of Thunderbirds to its original 4:3 aspect ratio. For years, viewers have had to endure cropped 16:9 versions, losing crucial parts of the visual storytelling. This Blu-ray release finally rectifies that, presenting the series as it was originally broadcast, complete with the original mono soundtrack.
This isn’t just a restoration of the old favorites, though. The Blu-ray set also includes the three anniversary episodes produced in 2015. These special episodes, initially funded through Kickstarter and previously only available to backers, will be released to the general public for the very first time, offering a chance for all fans to complete their Thunderbirds collections.
We suspect these were among the Century 21 Films productions rescued from Network DVD’s executors.
This exciting release is just the beginning of a broader initiative. It forms part of a new, expanded home entertainment partnership between Anderson Entertainment and ITV. Over the next three years, this collaboration promises a wealth of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson’s classic sci-fi series on Blu-ray and even 4K. So, if you’re a fan of Supermarionation, prepare for a wave of releases celebrating these iconic shows.
The Thunderbirds Blu-ray is the result of close collaboration with ITV Studios and the dedicated team at Anderson Entertainment. Kudos to the entire team, including Marcus Stamps for the eye-catching cover art and Stephen Thwaites for the impressive trailer. Further announcements regarding specific titles and release dates are expected in the coming months, and we’ll update you as we learn about them.
