Blackadder complete series remastered and restored, Blu-ray release coming

Rowan Atkinson in Blackadder II

The master of the amusing insult, Blackadder first hit screens 40 years ago. Rowan Atkinson’s creation may not have been an instant hit, but following the 1986 broadcast of Blackadder II, it really took off.

While it has previously been issued on DVD, the complete Blackadder has yet to enjoy a Blu-ray release. That is about to change on November 27th, however, with the release of Blackadder: The Complete Collection. A 7-disc collection running to 20 hours and 53 minutes, Blackadder: The Complete Collection features every broadcast episode, along with Blackadder’s Christmas Carol, Blackadder: The Cavalier Years, and Blackadder Rides Again.

(At this time, there is no word as to whether the 2023 special Blackadder: The Lost Pilot will be included, but it has not yet been confirmed. Also missing is Blackadder: Back & Forth, produced for the opening of the Millenium Dome in 1999.)

The included episodes have been upscaled where possible and film inserts remastered “where available.” Special features, meanwhile, are a mix of standard and high definition.

Below are the confirmed contents:

As you can see, this is a must-have for any Blackadder fan, and while there are some omissions, it seems to be the ideal Christmas gift (albeit one that won’t easily fit inside Baldrick’s stocking).

Personally, I cannot wait – I’m hoping to unwrap this on Christmas morning (pending a visit from the Spirit of Christmas), or perhaps my December birthday.
